John continues in his spiral teaching of the letter starting with truth, moving to love, and concluding this chapter with obedience.
The children of God are the recipients of God’s great love. Their obedience to God is then demonstrated not just in loving God but in loving each other.
John used the word “abide” four times through this short section of his letter. To abide in God means to abide in love. Abiding leads to loving.
