As John is wrapping up his letter to the churches, he once again calls his readers to know the truth about Jesus Christ – Jesus is the one to whom the water, blood, and the Spirit all testify. Jesus is life, and Jesus is the source of eternal life.
Children of the Lord know this truth and have this eternal life; therefore, their lives are to reflect that truth and life. They are to live in obedience to the commands of the Lord and to love one another. Faith, obedience, and love all work together to assure the readers that they are truly the children of God.
