The Son of Man Is Coming

Mark 13:26: "And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory."
Our sermon one Sunday morning began with the preacher standing up announcing that she had great news. It had nothing to do with politics or local events. Instead, it was a much greater announcement: Jesus is coming! This is the announcement that the church has been praying for since Jesus' ascension to the Father. This second coming of Jesus will be much different than his first coming. He will not be born in a manger to a humble couple again. Instead, Jesus will come back in the clouds with glory and power! This second coming of Jesus will not be one of humility. Instead, Jesus will come as the rightful king and will establish his kingdom on earth. For those who believe in him and have put their hope in him, this will be the most glorious of days!
For those who have rejected Jesus as their Messiah, this second coming of Christ will be a time of judgment. This is the day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. There will be great rewards as the children of the king take their place in his kingdom, and there will be great torment for those who have rejected Jesus.
This season of Advent is the time to get ready for this second coming. Often, people think of Advent as the time to celebrate Jesus' first coming. Sadly, we tend to get consumed with buying gifts, hosting parties, and sending out cards. However, while it is a celebration that Jesus has come, Advent is more a reminder and a call to wake up, get ready, and faithfully await his second coming. Throughout the Scriptures, we see the Lord fulfill his promises. He will come again just as he has said!
Reflection:
Are you looking forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ? If not, how would the Lord have you amend your heart and life so that you are ready and eager for his return?
