The Lord's Guidance for His People

Exodus 13:21-22: "And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people."
If one looked at a map of Egypt and the surrounding land, they would not design the route along which the Lord led the nation of Israel. For one who likes to do things the logical way, this route would be perplexing and frustrating. However, God's ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8). Thankfully, his ways are perfect. The Lord would protect his people from the Philistines, a nation known for its warfare. The Lord's ways are for the protection and peace of his people.
There was peace in knowing God's presence through the pillar of cloud which not only provided guidance but also protection from the scorching sun. The pillar of fire also provided guidance and much-needed light for traveling at night. The Lord perfectly provided and perfectly guided his people. He knew the right path for them, and he would faithfully lead them to overcome every enemy and every obstacle.
The God of the Hebrews knows his people, he redeemed them from their bondage, and now he will save them from the perils of their travels.
Reflection:
Do you ever get frustrated by the ways of the Lord? Do you trust his guidance? How can this passage encourage you to trust him even when it doesn't make sense?
