The Favor of Moses Throughout Egypt

Exodus 11:3-4: "And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants and in the sight of the people."

Back in Exodus 3, the Lord told Moses that not only would he free the nation of Israel from the land of Egypt, but they would leave with the wealth of Egypt: "So you shall plunder the Egyptians" (Exodus 3:22).

For years, these people served as slaves in the land of Egypt. They were not honored; they were oppressed. Where Pharaoh was hardened to the Lord of the Israelites, his servants recognized the mighty works of the Lord. We read of their fear in Exodus 9. Moses warned Pharaoh of the hailstorm. He encouraged the Egyptians to bring in all their animals and all their servants from the fields. Those who feared the Lord and heeded the warning of Moses were spared the loss of the animals and the servants.

In chapter ten, Pharaoh's servants questioned him on how much more destruction he would bring onto the land of Egypt. They encouraged Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Pharaoh, as the king of Egypt, was to protect the land and his people, yet his hard-heartedness brought destruction upon the land and the people.

The servants of Pharaoh saw that the God of the Hebrews was to be feared; the people of Egypt saw that there was something different about Moses and his God. Moses found favor with the people. That favor and that newfound fear of the Lord led the Egyptians to not only give their treasures to the Hebrews but to give abundantly. As the Lord said, the Israelites plundered the Egyptians on their way out of bondage. All the years of not receiving payment were redeemed.

Reflection:
Do you believe that God will redeem all your suffering?
