Keep Justice and Do Righteousness

Isaiah 56:1: "Thus says the Lord: 'Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my righteousness be revealed.'"
What are we to do as Christians when it seems the world has gone completely astray? There is the call to pray, and then there is the call to act. Each of us has a different and unique calling in this world. Just as Esther was put in the palace of the king "for such a time as this," so are we here and now "for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14). Do you realize and acknowledge this calling? God has given you gifts to be used to build his kingdom in this time. It is critical that we each embrace our unique callings and live into them.
Our calling and gifts are what is unique to each of us. What is common to all of us is the call to keep justice and to do righteousness. We don't follow the ways of the world; we follow the Lord. We do what is right in all circumstances. We respect the dignity of every human being. We seek to reflect God's glory in all that we say and do. As Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, we are to live as salt and light. We preserve the ways of the kingdom, and we shine with his brightness in this dark world.
While the world may not acknowledge the Lord and his kingdom here and now, we know that one day every eye will behold his glory; every knee will bow to the true king (Philippians 2:10-11). The salvation of the Lord will be seen. The world will see his righteousness and the ways of his kingdom.
For now, let us keep our eyes on that king and his kingdom. Let us trust that though it seems many do not see or know him, they will eventually see the fullness of who he is. Let us live with our lights shining through lives of justice and righteousness. One day soon, we will enjoy his great salvation, and we will hear him say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:21).
