Speaking the Words of Life

Romans 10:14: "How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?"
As I walk the dog each morning, I love to listen to YouTube sermons and teachings. This morning, I was challenged to consider the difference between a teacher and a preacher. All pastors are called to be shepherds and teachers, and all believers are called to be preachers. What does this mean?
A teacher is one who is spiritually gifted to instruct people in the ways of the Lord. Not all of us are gifted to be teachers for the Lord, but all of us are equipped to be preachers. The word to preach means to declare truth, to tell others the Word of God. Statements like, “Jesus died for you,” is a declaration of truth. We are called to declare who God is, why he sent his Son, and how he wants to live in relationship with his people. We may not be called to preach from the front of the church, but we are called to share the Gospel with our children, our friends, the people at our workplaces, and any people who have not yet heard the word of the Lord.
Paul poses the very important question in this passage of Romans: how will people come to know the Lord unless we share about him? Before Jesus ascended to the Father, he instructed his disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). You and I may not be called to head overseas to share the Gospel; nevertheless, we are called to share the Gospel. We are called to go out into the world, to those who do not yet believe, and to tell them.
Are you declaring the Gospel message to the lost? Are you sharing what God has done in your life? Are you inviting others to come, see, and hear the words of life?
