Glory in His Holy Name

Psalm 105:3: "Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!"
Yesterday, I stopped to talk to a neighbor. We caught up with one another, and then our conversation turned to the challenges of these days. We bemoaned the craziness of the media and the fear that has captivated our world. We lamented the challenges of our political system and this upcoming election. And we pondered the possibility of a Covid-19 vaccine and how it would change our current living situation.
Needless to say, the conversation was not the most upbeat until my neighbor shared about the sermon she has just listened to online. The preacher exhorted the people to choose to think about things that are good, holy, uplifting - things that lead to life. As she shared this sermon with me, our conversation completely changed. We went from despondency to joy, hope, and our shared faith.
Just as that preacher's message called my neighbor and me to change our focus, the psalmist today calls us to glorify the Lord, recognize that he is above all, and acknowledge that he alone is worthy of our praise and adoration. Holy means set apart. Our Lord is set apart from the mess of our world. He alone has an eternal perspective and a plan of redemption and healing for his people.
Believers, children of God, it is time for us to stop the moaning and groaning! Let us look to the Lord, cry out to him for the healing of our land, and trust that he is worthy of our praise even in our challenging times. The Lord is trustworthy.
May our hearts move from despondency to rejoicing. Not only will our spirits be lifted, but the world around us will see something greater in us. Our response to challenges is an opportunity to display faith to a world that is broken and without hope. May our decision to glory in God's name, seek him, and rejoice in him be a light in our world today.
