Abounding in Steadfast Love

Psalm 145:8-9: "The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made."
Many of us have come to believe that God is hard, that he is quick to condemn, and that he sits in heaven wringing his hands in frustration over us and our many failures. King David, who was both one of the greatest sinners and one who was called a man after God's own heart, speaks directly to these lies. Instead of being quick to condemn, the Lord is gracious and merciful. Instead of being angry and disappointed by our many failures, God is slow to anger and his love is much greater than his disappointment. Our heavenly Father abounds in steadfast love; it is love that knows no limits, that does not run out, and that covers every square inch of us. This perfect love waits for us each morning. He is ready for us and longs to pull us into his steadfast love, to remind us who we are to him and how big his grace is for us.
The Lord longs for us to live free - free of fear, free of guilt, free of condemnation. He sent Jesus to show us just how big his love really is. Jesus showed us the heart of his Father through his teachings, his life, and ultimately his death on our behalf.
Are we choosing to live in this grace, mercy and steadfast love of the Lord? Or, are we choosing to live in the lies of the enemy - the ones that tell us that God is hard, quick to condemn, and constantly disappointed? The Scriptures faithfully reveal what the Lord’s heart is towards us. May we reject the lies and cling to his truth. The truth will set us free (John 8:32).
Father, teach us to renounce the lies we have believed about you and to cling to you and your perfect truth. Thank you for your daily grace, mercy, and steadfast love.
