Come to Me

Isaiah 55:1-3: "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk, without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear that your soul may live."
Come. The Lord invites you to come to him to fulfill your deepest thirst and your deepest hunger. Come humbly. Come expectantly. Come just as you are knowing that you have nothing to give and everything to gain. The heart of the Father is to provide for your needs and to bless you with his presence and his goodness. Are you hungry? Come! Are you thirsty? Come! Are you discouraged, sick, weak, broken-hearted? Come! Your heavenly Father stands ready to receive you, to comfort you, and to meet your every need.
With perfect gentleness and perfect love, the Father asks the question: "Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?" The Father's heart is to bring you close to him so that he can provide for, love, and guide you. Sadly, many of us resist his invitation and instead scramble around looking for our own provision, our own answers, and our own satisfaction. We settle for imitations of God’s real goodness. Those imitations look like busyness, service, or materialism. Anything that we seek to satisfy ourselves outside of God is an imitation, also known as an idol.
The Lord calls us to consider to what we are looking or to whom we are looking to meet our deepest needs. He reminds us that his words are perfect and true; his food is good and will not only meet our needs but delight us. In him, we find true life, the abundant life which his Son came to give us.
Will you come?
