A Pearl of Great Value

Matthew 13:44: "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
Here is a great way to look at this parable. It is new to me and may be new to you. You are that pearl of great value. Jesus came to find you and then to purchase you with his life. God sent his Son into the world to buy the field containing the pearls. He was willing to give it all in order to have you.
Are you living like a treasure? So many of us doubt our value; we doubt our beauty or significance. God declares who you are in him and what you are to him - you are the fine pearl; you are of great value! It is time that the children of God start living as the beloved of the Lord. It is time to stop comparing yourself to others and to start living in the perfect assurance of being sought, chosen, and purchased by the Father. He has had his eyes on you from the very beginning. Psalm 139 says it this way: "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (verses 13-14). There is not one aspect of your being that God did not design - your personality, your appearance, your gifts, and your calling - all that was God's perfect plan for you.
Who gets to define you? If you see yourself as the pearl in this parable and understand your value to God then you can be set free to truly be yourself and to pursue whole-heartedly the things that God has for you in this world. If you allow the world to define you, you will perform for them and sacrifice who you truly are to conform to their standards. The world's affections are fickle and change day to day. God's love is steadfast.
God has given his very own Son to find you, purchase you, and to have you live as his son or daughter. May you know your value to him and live into that value today.
