More Than Conquerors

Romans 8:37-39: "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Years ago, I was meeting with a spiritual mentor, and she spoke these words to me: "Brooke, you have been an overcomer, but the Lord wants you to live as more than a conqueror." Ever since that meeting, I have pondered her words and wondered - what is the difference in being an overcomer and living as more than a conqueror?
God has had me in what I call a sixteen-year healing journey. When my mentor spoke these words to me, I had been healed of so many things. I was being transformed from the inside out. Despite all this healing, there was a part of my heart that could not comprehend the love that God had for me.
There was the difference between living as an overcomer and being more than a conqueror – knowing and believing the love of God! As I came into deeper healing, I began to comprehend that God loved me, delighted in me, and accepted me just as I was. Graham Cooke has an amazing recording called "Inheritance." In it, he spoke words that I continually play in my head: "God loves because he loves you because he loves you. Even if you never change, even if you never get better, he still loves you." God began to move the truth of what I knew about him in my mind down to my heart. I began to understand that God’s love for me is not based on me, not based on what I do, but is based on what Christ has done for me.
Through Christ, you are more than a conqueror. Are you living in this victory? Are you living in the complete security of his love? Read these words every day until they become truth. Ask the Lord to etch them into your heart and into your mind. Then you, too, will become more than a conqueror through Christ who loves you!
