Seek the Lord

Psalm 105:4: "Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!"

What are you seeking today? Are you seeking to stay healthy in this pandemic? Are you seeking financial security as you watch the markets rise and fall? Are you seeking hope or peace or joy? All these things are fine things. However, there is a greater thing.

The psalmist reminds us of that greater thing as he calls us to seek the Lord, seek his strength, seek his presence. The psalmist understands who the Lord is -- the Lord our God, the covenant maker and covenant keeper, the deliverer, the one who freed the Israelites from captivity in Egypt, the one who led the Israelites through the wilderness, and the one who provided for their every need. This is the Lord who has blessed his people and taught them how to live in the land.

Often the hardest times reveal the depths of our hearts. We realize what we focus on and have the opportunity to examine our ways, our thoughts, our motives. What are you learning during this time of pandemic? What are you looking to for answers, and who are you placing your hope in through this trial? Are you looking to the government, the scientists, or the doctors? Or, are you praying for those people but looking to the Lord?

Seek first the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). Our only hope is found in him alone. Covid-19 will one day pass; the earth will fade away; but God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). May we seek him, seek his kingdom, seek his strength, and seek his presence. When you seek him, you will find him (Jeremiah 29:13). The Psalmist calls us back to our only true hope and security in this world. We will find those in seeking the Lord alone.
